Marine Plumbing & Ventilation
The plumbing and ventilation systems are two of the most important aspects of your boat. It is very important that any toilet facilities work properly, and you also need to ensure that there is adequate ventilation for the engine and to remove any fumes that can build up in passenger compartments or similar areas. With our marine plumbing and ventilation parts and accessories, you have what you need all in one place, right at your fingertips. From air conditioning & refrigeration supplies to bilge pumps, fans, and hot water heaters, we have it all under one roof.
We carry several brands and can offer Livewell pumps and transfer pumps, along with several marine sanitation options. Portable toilets are an excellent choice for boats that are large enough to accommodate them, but the comfort of your passengers is not the only thing to be aware of. You also need to make sure you have adequate engine cooling pumps, and that any washdown / pressure pumps work correctly. With a WaterMaker pump, quality fittings, and the right blowers & heaters for your boat, you can ensure that your boat will operate correctly and your passengers will have the comfort and convenience they need.

BREATHE 4500 Air Purifier
With this easy-to-install upgrade kit for a marine air conditioner, boaters will always breathe clean and healthy air into the boat. Using state-of-the-art ionization technology, the air purifier effectively reduces dust particles, bacteria, mold buildup, and unpleasant odors. A genuine must-need upgrade for a boat's air conditioning system!
CleanAir
The Dometic air purifier uses advanced Dometic CleanAir technology. When voltage is applied to the two needle-point brushes, they interact with the oxygen and moisture in the air to produce negative and positive ions. These ions have three positive effects. First, they help reduce bacteria, viruses, and mold by attacking their core structure. Second, the charged ions attract dust particles in the air. This creates larger lumps of particles, which can be easily caught in the AC filter. Third, the ions also break down the molecular structure of volatile organic compounds. This eliminates unpleasant smells caused by chemicals or waste.
Easy & Flexible Installation
Compact in size, the Dometic BREATHE 2500 air purification add-on kit requires little space. This opens various installation options—fan, ductwork, transition boxes, or directly behind the air outlet grille. Thanks to the wide input voltage range (70 to 240 V AC), the system is compatible with most Dometic rooftop air conditioners. The installation itself is quick and easy. Simply attach the base unit with the two bolts or the double-sided adhesive tape included in the delivery kit. Then drill two holes spaced about 2–3 inches apart and press in the rubberized ionizer brushes. Finally, connect the system to a power source. A smart option is to connect the Dometic Breathe air purifier directly to a fan power source. This will ensure you only generate ions when needed.
Features:
High-Quality Aluminum Inserts (secure, corrosion-resistant mounting)
LED Pilot Lamp (clearly indicates that the air purifier is operating)
The latest bipolar ionization technology reliably reduces dust particles, bacteria, mold buildup, and odors
Easy installation with flexible mounting options: fan, ductwork, transition boxes, or directly behind the air outlet grille
No consumables or replacement parts are required; simply clean the ionizer brushes
Energy-saving – can be connected directly to the fan to ensure power supply only when needed
Compact and space-saving design
Universal power supply – wide input voltage range (100 to 245 VAC)
Fits Dometic FreshJet 1100, 1500, 1700, 2000, 2200, 3000, and 3200

Extreme Heat On The Outside -- Cool Climate Inside!
Vacationing on your yacht is most enjoyable in glorious weather with warm temperatures, but without any shade the sun quickly heats up your boat. Webasto offers a comprehensive selection of marine air conditioning systems for all individual comfort climate needs. Even in the heat of the summer, you can enjoy pleasantly cool temperatures on board.
FCF® Series Air Conditioning
FCF innovation starts with a more balanced system for noise elimination. The compressor has been carefully mounted to greatly reduce unwanted vibration and noises that can transfer into the cabin interrupting your sleep. Unlike competitive systems FCF stands for quality, including a longlasting, baked-on enamel finish, a robust blower that can handle multiple vents and FCF is the only A/C system that comes standard with a digital control panel.

The new year is in full swing meaning the boat show season began the week of January 9th. The big three across the USA are the Annapolis, Chicago, and Miami boat shows, all touting the latest and greatest in gadgets, trends, and equipment. The shows draw water sports enthusiasts from fishing, kiteboarding, diving, canoeing, kayaking, rowing, surfing, wakeboarding, and more. Engines and engine technology, water safety, and equipment seminars are great learning experiences for any boater.
During the third week of January, Dusseldorf, Germany, hosts the world's largest boat and water sports show, with more than 250,000 visitors attending from 70 countries. The nine-day event showcases equipment and seminars from 2,000 exhibitors.
The International Boat Builders' Exhibition and Conference, IBEX, held in Tampa each October, is the largest marine equipment trade show in North America. This conference is not open to the public.
More knowledge about boating is the universal focus of all conferences and exhibitions, and safety and security are the front row focus now more than ever. Two of the hottest trends for boating, smart lighting and remote monitoring are at the core foundation of peace of mind when it comes to safety and security.
Smart Lighting
Most boaters already know about trendy lighting such as mood lighting, (because you are always in a mood). Underwater lighting (old school); and lit up drink holders, so you can always find your drink, have some new gadgetry as well.
For 2020, Smart Lighting is operated from a multi-function display, or better yet, your Smart Phone. You can choose the right color hue from a color pallet that creates hundreds of color combinations. You can program the on/off displays, so your boat is fully lit as you walk down the dock. Keep a toggle light switch on board in the event that remote systems have a problem. Battery powered lanterns and flashlights should always be on board.
Remote Monitoring
Whether out at sea or sitting in your easy chair at home, boaters want to be connected. New cloud-based remote monitoring systems let you keep a watchful eye on your boat from a monitor at home or an app on your phone. How fantastic is it to check your boat battery levels from the comfort of your home, or see if the bilge pump is doing its job?
Setting up a boat security system in the form of a geofence and camera system would alert you if an unwanted visitor decides to take your boat for a ride. For skippers with added luxuries and amenities such as air-conditioning (my dad is rolling over in his grave on this one) or refrigeration, you can turn on both as you are driving to the harbor.
Soft Decking
The flooring with soft decking is a hot item this year for the added comfort of our feet, knees, and almost all body parts. Consider that while comfortable boating shoes should be the norm, lots of visitors to your boat will be barefoot, wearing flip-flops, sandals, or shoes never meant for a slippery deck. In my sailing experience, I had one woman show up in spiked high heels, and another brought her daughter along who was sporting an ankle plaster cast. Both were not invited back on board.
Good quality soft decking can add to the life of your boat, and help prevent added injury when there is a fall. Soft-touch foam is a more comfortable alternative to carpeting or nonskid material. It is softer on bare feet and still provides nonskid. The foam also stays cool and dries more quickly. Foammaker Non-Slip Boat Flooring Decking Pad and 6mm Thickness EVA Foam Faux Teak Marine Mat are just a few of the decking items causing a lot of buzz at the boat shows.
Whether you are setting sail for the first time, or you are an old salt who could circumnavigate while blindfolded, visit one of the many boat shows happening during the first quarter of 2020. Think about the added knowledge you'll gain for fun on the water, fair winds, and smooth sailing.

Taking your four legged or feathered family members cruising with you?
Part I
(Part II – Long Distance Sailing with Salty Dogs, Cats & Feathered Friends, will be our next blog.)
Consider safety and comfort for all. Make no mistake. People- and pets fall overboard. One slippery deck, one unplanned jibe, or a rogue wave can knock the best of breeds into the drink.
Safety messages are always woven into our blogs. The same plans need to be in place for your pets. There is a certain helplessness factor with pets. We have yet to hear Fido yell "Man overboard!" Your first clue that your pet has fallen into the drink will be The Splash. Like babies, our animal companions also have a difficult time telling us what ails them when they are sick.
Bill Pinkney, the second African American to sail solo around the world, and the first to set a 27,000 mile course that took him around five capes, said about taking along pets. "I didn't take any pets on my voyage, because they couldn't make a choice, whether to be there, or not."
Does you pet want to be on the water, or not? Our first dog, Arthur, was a true salty dog. The minute we picked up our canvas bags, Arthur was raring to go. Our second dog, Abby, was not seafaring at all. She didn't like loud noises (the engine) and she didn't like the wind (on our 34' sailboat).
On Abby's maiden voyage, she became hyper to the point that one of us had to hold onto her by the collar, while the other sailed the boat. Upon our arrival in the harbor there was wailing, tears and gnashing of teeth. Not all produced by Abby! Our cute little 40lb. pup made it clear to us that she would rather be home, lying on the couch with the air-conditioning turned on high.
A life jacket for pets is a must for two reasons. One. It will keep them afloat in the water. Two. Most have a big handle across the back so that it can be grabbed and lifted back on deck by hand, or a boat hook.
Is your pet comfortable in its safety equipment? Try out every piece of equipment on dry land. We took our dog, Arthur, to the local marine store to get the perfect sized life jacket. Once on, the jacket fit well, but the dog wouldn't move. We couldn't get him to walk in the store, unless we removed it. Some time later, other sailing friends sent us a different dog life jacket, and it did the trick.
Have your dog or cat get used to the surroundings before you start the engine. Pets may seek enclosed shelter, such as a wardrobe locker, once the engine starts up. When underway and having to do difficult maneuvering such as navigating locks or narrow channels, pets should be securely below.
Think about where your pet is going to ride on your boat. Don't let any pet (or human) ride on the transom. The fumes from your engine can be deadly!
Your deck is slick, including your cabin tops. Our friends' had their Irish Setter sleeping on the cabin top of their 30' sailboat. The boat heeled, and the dog slipped right into the drink. Second concern. Our swim ladders were never meant to be climbed by four-legged critters with paws. Image trying to get a 60 lb Irish Setter up the ladder or over the transom? Have a plan in place.
Cats need a litter box on board. Once docked they may choose a different plan on shore, and may bring other critters back with them in the form of a mouse, bird, or gopher. For cats that go overboard, fenders and rope ladders are a way out of the water. Like dogs, cats should wear pet lifejackets.
Cruising with dogs, and their needs is a little easier. They are able to wait a little longer than cats before nature calls. There is always an exception.
If you have to row your pet to shore to take care of business, or you are moored at a mooring can or star dock, get the pet used to riding in the dinghy. Knowing we would be in the North Channel in Canada at anchor, Bob blew up our Zodiac at home in our living room, to get our dog used to getting in and out of the dinghy.
As in regular dog or cat owner life, have the required tags on your dog for identification, vaccinations, and a number where you can be reached. A collar and leash that light up in the dark is also a must.
Some cruisers take their birds for boat rides. Most are long range cruisers. Safety strategies for bird owners and boats will be covered in Part II of this blog.
Carry a collapsible kennel with you in the event that your dog or cat is injured, or rough weather, and you need all hands on deck. Best for transporting your pet if you need to go ashore in rough seas. Cat baskets, with a soft blanket inside, are recommended for cats onboard.
Do some investigative exploring on your boat from your pet's point of view. Decide which deck surfaces are the most safe. Deck and railing netting are a deterrent for pets going overboard.
Take the time and spend the money to make your voyages safe for all your passengers, especially your loving pets.
