ERC-12-15 Emergency Relay
The Emergency Relay/Charger is a device for assuring immediate backup power to communications equipment in the event AC power is temporarily lost to the power supply or the supply fails. In addition, it will allow the power supply to act as a “trickle” battery charger without any additional modification.
When loss of DC voltage is sensed by the ERC, it employs a fast-acting S.P.D.T. relay to automatically switch the equipment’s DC input over to a standby battery to allow continued operation. When the power supply is returned to service, the ERC disengages the battery and puts the supply back online to provide DC voltage. While the power supply is operating normally, a small portion of the output current is directed to the battery to trickle-charge and maintain it at full voltage. (Note: Battery float voltage will be maintained at .7 volts lower than the power supply voltage.)
Note: If the power supply is down for an extended period, the backup battery may become significantly discharged while powering the radio. When the supply returns to service, the trickle charge rate of the ERC may be insufficient to restore the battery to full charge in a timely manner. In the event this occurs, a supplemental charger may be necessary to bring the battery to full charge.
Installation
Select a suitable location as close to the battery as possible where there is no likelihood of accidental contact and shorting of the terminals. The ERC may be mounted vertically, horizontally, or even upside-down, if necessary, without affecting its operation. Two # 10 sheet metal or wood screws will be needed. Mounting on a metal surface is acceptable as the inputs and outputs are isolated from the mounting bracket.
Note: If the battery is stored in an unventilated enclosure, it is not recommended that users mount the ERC within the same enclosure. As with any relay, it should not be in an area where there may possibly be battery gases or any other potentially explosive gases present.
Wiring
The wiring should be as direct as possible. Ensure that the battery posts are free from corrosion. Determine the correct gauge wire using the information below. The wire length is the total length of the run (ERC-to-Radio + Power Supply-to-ERC) or (ERC-to-Radio + Battery-to-ERC), whichever is longer.
5 ft. wire length = #14 AWG
10 ft. wire length = #12 AWG
15 ft. wire length = #10 AWG
20 ft. wire length = #10 AWG
Use the provided crimp ring lug connectors to secure wiring to the ERC. Models ERC-12-15 and ERC-24-15 are provided with yellow plastic terminal covers, which must be reinstalled after wiring to prevent accidental shorting.
Specifications:
Input Range: 10.0-14.5 VDC (12V)
Relay Rating: 10 amps continuous & 15 amps intermittent
Float Trickle (typical): 0.1 amps
Dimensions (inches): 5-1/8" x 2-7/8" x 2-3/8"

12-12-3i Power Stabilizer
Feed sensitive electronics with proper voltage, regardless of the battery condition. This stabilizing converter provides continuous, precisely regulated output over the entire range of a battery’s usable voltage. This prevents subjecting loads to fluctuating input voltage, which can cause shutdown, diminish performance, and possibly damage sensitive circuitry.
This converter provides total input/output isolation, virtually eliminating conducted line noise and permitting the connection of negative ground gear to positive or floating ground systems, or vice versa. It can be modified for use as a battery charger, allowing them to maintain a battery at a great distance from the primary voltage source, providing reserve power if the main source fails. The rugged anodized aluminum case is ideal for marine applications.
Application Benefits Include:
Operate electronics at optimal input voltage, even from nearly drained batteries
Boost voltage to compensate for voltage drops in long wire runs from batteries
Eliminate voltage drops during momentary high current drain from batteries, as during engine start
Eliminate voltage fluctuation from charge sources
Eliminate voltage overshoot due to sudden removal of high current load

12-12-6i Power Stabilizer

Option: Extreme Vibration Mounting Kit
The Extreme Vibration Mounting Kit is available to protect NEWMAR power converters from the extreme stresses of shock and vibration when mounted on high-vibration vehicles.
The kit (pictured here) replaces the standard vibration kit provided with the unit and fits into the unit’s mounting flange to act as a “super shock absorber” for electronics in high-vibration applications. It is available to fit all NEWMAR units from 2 to 70 lbs. Specify KIT–L for units that weigh 2–15 lbs. and Kit–H for units that weigh 16-70 lbs.

NS-12-20 StartGuard
The abrupt DC system voltage drop that accompanies engine starting can cause micro-processor-driven electronics aboard vehicles or vessels to "dump" programmed memory. StartGuard solves these problems by providing supplemental power to sensitive electronics while the engines are cranking. Newmar's NS-12-20 StartGuard supplies backup power for electronics during engine start.
Mounting
Mount the StartGuard in any convenient location, such as under the dash or console, using the four mounting screws provided or #10 bolts.
Wiring
Input from the power source to the electronics must be routed through the StartGuard.
Specifications:
Input Voltage: 13.8-14.8 VDC nominal, 15.5 VDC Max
Relay Activation Input Voltage: 7-15 VDC
Output: 20 Amps Max
Battery: 12 VDC, 4.0 Amp/Hour, Sealed Rechargeable, 3-5 Year Life (Typical)
Backup Capacity (Fully Charged): 20 Amps for one minute/18 Amps for 2 minutes
Operating Temperature Range: 0-40 degrees Celsius
Winter Storage Temperature Range: -20 degrees to +40 degrees Celsius
